Setting Allowed HTTP Methods - protect your CDN content

Introduction

The Allowed HTTP Methods option of CDN Static services lets you choose which HTTP methods viewers can use when requesting your CDN content. If your service is intended only for delivering content, you can allow GET and HEAD while keeping other types of requests separate from that delivery path.

How to set Allowed HTTP Methods

On the Services/Settings page, select All or GET and HEAD from the Allowed HTTP Methods select box.

Available options

  • All (default): The CDN does not restrict viewer requests based on their HTTP method.
  • GET and HEAD: GET and HEAD requests are processed normally. Viewer requests using other methods receive 405 Method Not Allowed with the Allow: GET, HEAD response header.

When to use GET and HEAD

GET and HEAD are sufficient when viewers use the CDN service only to retrieve content. With this option, requests such as POST form submissions are not forwarded to your origin through this CDN service. This keeps the service focused on content delivery while other interactions can use their intended endpoint.

Notes

Selecting All does not guarantee that every HTTP method will succeed. Your origin server may still reject a request.
